Background

Dr. Marwin began his career as an orthopedic generalist and performed traditional open carpal tunnel surgery at the time. During his fellowship, he was also exposed to endoscopic CTR and other approaches. Dr. Marwin was convinced he would perform these exclusively. His plans changed as soon as he was exposed to ultrasound-guided carpal tunnel release. “It was pretty novel when I first saw it. It was unlike anything I’d ever done before in my orthopedic career and training.”

Dr. Marwin served as Guest Faculty for the MSK Ultrasound Forum in 2023 and 2024 and joined the Executive Committee in 2026. He also regularly teaches at MSK Ultrasound Mini Fellowship programs, sharing practical tips from his experience integrating ultrasound into his own practice.

While practicing at Bluegrass Orthopaedics in Lexington, KY, Dr. Marwin was named a Center of Excellence Physician for ultrasound-guided carpal tunnel release. Since then, he has moved his practice to Vero Orthopaedics in Vero Beach, FL where he continues to demonstrate expertise in ultrasound-guided carpal tunnel release and outstanding patient outcomes.

Education

Originally from Buffalo, New York, Dr. Marwin completed his undergraduate degree at The University of Pennsylvania and earned his medical degree from Albany Medical College. He completed orthopedic residency and hand and upper extremity fellowship training at Jacobs School of Medicine, SUNY Buffalo. He also holds an MBA from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, which supports his focus on efficient, patient-centered care.

Dr. Marwin is board certified and fellowship trained in hand, elbow, and shoulder surgery. He leads the region in innovative, minimally invasive techniques for hand, wrist, and upper extremity procedures and has published and presented internationally on these approaches. His dedication to research and ongoing learning ensures patients receive care guided by the latest advancements in orthopedic surgery.

A former collegiate rower and Fleet Marine Force Naval Officer, Dr. Marwin deployed to Afghanistan as an orthopedic surgeon supporting U.S. and allied forces, bringing discipline, precision, and a commitment to service to every patient interaction.

Marwin – What clinical research have I been involved in?

Mission

Dr. Victor Marwin was the study’s principal investigator. MISSION was designed to be the largest multi-center clinical study in the United States assessing the treatment of patients suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome. This study collected real-world, long-term data on patients suffering from CTS who were treated with a UGCTR procedure using Sonex Health’s commercially available device, UltraGuideCTR™.

Robust

Dr. Marwin participated as an investigator in the ROBUST trial, which was a prospective, multicenter observational study to determine the safety and effectiveness of office-based ultrasound guided carpal tunnel release (UGCTR). Office-based UGCTR is well tolerated, associated with a rapid recovery, sustained improvements in symptoms and function, and high procedure satisfaction at 6 months. There were also statistically significant and clinically meaningful improvements in BCTQ-SSS, -FSS, MHQ, pain, EQ-5D-5L at 6 months. The results were similar for unilateral and simultaneous bilateral releases.
